Drive from Icici to Rab Island

A beautiful sunny day today, just right for our 3 hour drive to Stinica to catch the ferry to Rab Island, driving through Rijeka, Croatia’s third largest city then climbing out of Rijeka with the coast on our right and the mountains to our left. We followed the coast road all the way to Stinica, through the lovely coastal town of Novi Vinodolski and there is only one way to describe the scenery today, spectacularly stunning! I have never seen scenery like it, fabulous blue sea and sky with the backdrop of white and green mountains on one side and then the islands of Krk, Cres, Prvic, Sveti Grgur, Goli Otok and finally Rab Island to our right. Just incredible, the road weaved its way around the mountains and the coast, we climbed really high with the mountains on one side and a nail biting drop into the sea on the other side, I am glad Tony was sitting on the outside!

We have now left Istria behind and are now in the region of Kvarner

We boarded the ferry and left the jetty, only to realise that we were then reversing back to the jetty as a couple of cars and motorbikes turned up, so the ferry reversed back to let them on too! Well it was supposed to have been the 2.00 pm ferry and it was leaving at 1.30 pm, I guess they felt obliged to go back! The crossing was only 20 minutes and we are now pitched at Campsite Padova 111 looking at a lovely little bay with the mountains from the mainland in the background. Rab Old Town is only 2km along the coast and there is a cycle path from the campsite following the coast, so we will probably venture out on the bikes tomorrow and if the weather keeps up, be doing a spot of swimming and sunbathing too as we plan to be here until Thursday.

Finally, just to give you a laugh Tony was in a spot of bother yesterday, he ran out of clean underpants so I had to do a quick emergency hand wash until we got to a campsite with a launderette. At least we found a novel way to hang them to dry!

Sorry haven’t read this yet, still too excited, just tuned in early to Doc Martin, caught the end of coronation st. Two very sexy blonde women were laying on a bed talking. My god Ena Sharples and Minnie Caldwell have certainly got in shape. Are they doing ‘Strictly’ to get fit, cos it really worked.
Anyway just before they got into a deep passionate hot steamy kiss, a train crashed into their room in the Woolpack and everything exploded.
Will now read blog, Tony what are you missing?

The Woolpack is in Emmerdale, you should have said the Rovers Return!

Hi both, finally caught up and it looks like you’re having a wonderful time. Photos are superb and good to see it’s still summer in Croatia – we had a hailstorm today!
