Toll Free Driving, Almost!

Poll position on the Ferry but didn’t get off until all the cars above us had disembarked! Have had a good drive through France, weather changeable but mostly dry and sunny. Have managed to escape most of the tolls just gave in to using the toll roads around Orleans for about 30 miles which only cost us €10 but saved us at least half an hour at the end of the day when Tony was flagging!

We witnessed a bit of a road rage incident in front of us in the town of Saint Remy Sur Avre. We were in a long queue of traffic which was held up by traffic lights and a lorry in front of us that was not keeping up with the rest of the queue. A taxi decided to overtake everyone and push in front of a lorry who must have blasted his horn at him, so the first thing we saw was a car door opening at the lights and the taxi driver trying to pull the lorry driver out of his cab. A commotion took place which almost ended in fisty cuffs! The taxi driver repeatedly kicked the lorry and jumped in and out of his car for the next 10 minutes shouting abuse at the truck driver, holding us up even further They didn’t move on until we all got fed up and horns were heard! This delay of about 1/2 hour meant that Tony then had to drive like he had road rage to make up the time!

We have driven 414 miles today, a bit more than anticipated, and are now parked in a ‘free of charge’ Aire with a few other campers in a town called Lamotte-Beuvron. We have taken a walk into the town for a well deserved beer, so Tony is very happy!
