I have nominated today ‘the day of rest’ except that Tony wanted to do another walk so he ventured out on his own to climb the hill behind the village of Gayle. Whilst he was gone, I read my book and Mick and Jill took down their Caravan awning in preparation for an early start in the morning as we will all be heading home tomorrow.
In the afternoon we visited the Wensleydale Creamery and experienced the art of cheese making through the viewing gallery and then on into the shop to taste and purchase some cheese. I have to say the cheese is really delicious and it would have been rude not to buy some, so we did, quite a lot in fact but some to ‘give away’.
For our Final night we went back to the Green Dragon at Hardraw as I had read in the Lonely Planet guide book that they did a great steak and ale pie. They had a steak or chicken pie on the menu and we all chose the steak pie which really was excellent. I would recommend that if you happen to be in Hardraw, then you really should call into the Green Dragon and sample their pies. A quirky and unusual layout of a pub too!
We have had a great time in the Yorkshire Dales and we will certainly be going back again, loved the scenery, the walking, the beer and the food!
