We left Cinque Terre and drove to Torre del Lago Puccini to spend a couple of days resting and relaxing by the beach.
Camping Italia is about a mile from the beach and set in Parco Regionale Migliarinio San Rossore Massaciuccoli that runs from Viareggio to beyond Pisa. This made cycling to the beach a real pleasure as there are numerous paths through the woods directly to the beach. One evening we cycled north and south through the Parco and found plenty of trails. The beach at Torre del Lago Puccini is about 5 or 6 miles long with easy access by car or by foot or bike using the trails. There is a mixture of public beaches or private beaches, naturally we loaded up our bikes and ourselves with our chairs and parasol and opted for the public beach.
It’s been a lovely couple of days soaking up the sun and very hot, just right for cooling off in the sea.
Camping Italia is a great site with good facilities although the showers took a bit of working out to get hot water. You are given a fob that you need to enter and exit the swimming pool area and work the showers. There are plenty of facilities at the site, a great shop that sold fresh bread, ham and cheese, a true Italian deli, another shop that sold loads of camping equipment, swimwear, gifts and toys, a restaurant, launderette and plenty of washing facilities, not forgetting the domestic rabbits that roamed the site!
