We spent a couple of nights in Camping Giralda at the fishing port of Isla Cristina and spent half a day cycling into town and discovering the wonderful beaches. At the southern end of town a bridge crosses the lagoon to reach Playa de la Gaviota and along the rear of the beach a boardwalk trail heads east to Playa Central, with several beach bars. We stopped at one for a coffee before continuing further east back towards the campsite on a pathway that runs through a lovely pine forest. Fighting a cold and sore throat we spent the afternoon at the beach and enjoyed a swim in the sea, which wasn’t cold at all!
Camping Giralda is a good campsite with plenty of facilities and a short walk through the pine forest opposite to the beach. There are some lovely shaded pitches amongst the pine trees and some very open ones out in the sun with no defining dividing hedges so it rather felt like being in an open car park but with all the facilities on site! If you like the beach and want to chill out for a few days, it is a good place to stop.
