Lake Annecy

We took a boat ride around the lake, the 2 hour ticket allows you to disembark at one of the towns around the lake and then catch a later boat back to Annecy and we chose to visit the town of Talloires.  We walked around the lakeside in Talloires passing by the 4 star lakeside hotel L’Abbaye, the walk continues around a wooded circular route that you need to have proper walking shoes on to do as it looked very steep and a bit muddy.

We back tracked and walked up to the town for a coffee and a look around before returning back towards the lake and stopping at a lovely little cafe, Le Comptoir de Sébastien for some lunch, including homemade quiche and a croque monsieur!  The ice creams and cakes looked very tempting too but we all managed to resist the temptation!

The lake scenery really is magnificent with its views across to mountains and the Chateau de Duingt opposite.

There are plenty of water sport activities available on the lake from, water skiing, boat and pedalo hire, swimming, sailing and paddle boarding, to name but a few.  Not forgetting non-water sports such as rock climbing, cycling and canyoning.

Whilst we have been camping our friends, Gloria, Alan, Tony and Barbara have been staying about 2 miles away from us towards Annecy in a lakeside hotel, the Beauregard, very convenient to cycle to as the cycle path also runs alongside it.  They hired bikes and we cycled into Annecy and as far around the east side of the lake as far as the cycle path went before hitting the main road and turning back for lunch and a walk around Annecy.  Another time we cycled south on the path from the campsite to Duingt.

We celebrated my 60th Birthday at Le Bistro du Porte Restaurant with its stunning lakeside location, good service and menu.  Thank you Gloria, Alan, Tony and Barbara for organising the cake and the champagne!

The scenery around Lake Annecy is stunning and if you really have the stamina, you can cycle all the way around, like Tony & I did today.  A total of 24 miles in a clockwise direction that is slightly less strenuous than the anti-clockwise direction when you get to Talloires.  Most of it is off road and you can make a real day of it stopping at various villages along the way.

We got back just in time before the weather took a turn for the worse just as we packing up, thunder, lightning, hail stones, wind a proper storm!  So bad that Tony says he is not coming back here again and there is a river running under the van as I write this!

We leave Annecy tomorrow and head north to meet up with Tony, Miriam and Liz in Epernay for some champagne tasting and more Birthday celebrations.
