Despite really liking Pisa yesterday and parking what we thought was a ‘safe’ area in a road named Via Vittorio Venetto, just outside the city walls in a very open parking space alongside the pavement with other motorhomes and cars, we discovered late last night that we had in fact been broken into.
What the thieves took was a rucksack containing a large padlock for our bikes and some tools for the bikes and also my bag that I use for cycling containing a spare innertube, puncture repair kit, bike lights and bike computer!
When we returned back to the camper after visiting Pisa we had a warning light on the dashboard saying attempted break in so we checked all the doors and found no sign of a break in. It was only last night as we were getting ready for bed that we noticed the rucksack and bags had gone!
We are assuming that they managed to open one of the back doors slightly and reach in and pull the bags out. We feel fortunate that only minor items have been taken (we have checked for anything else missing) and if you are planning to visit Pisa, please be aware that no matter where you park, your valuables are not safe. Please be careful everyone.
Sorry to hear you were broken into Rosie. I hope they didn’t do any damage to the van doors. Although this is very distressing and annoying, it sounds like it could have been much worse in terms of what they took.
Thanks for the warning x

Thanks Nia, it could have been far worse and we are totally mystified as to how they did it with no sign of damage to any doors. X

So sorry to hear this, glad you and tony are ok and only small stuff taken. Although it is the shock of having it done to you, hope it doesn’t spoil your holiday too much. Love from us Alan and gloria X

Thanks guys. We are not overly upset as only bike bits taken but totally mystified as to how they opened the back door. Think it was a snatch and grab as alarm must have gone off so they only had time to grab what they could reach. Still enjoying the holiday. Guess the parking wasn’t free after all! X

Rose,
Sorry to hear about the robbery. We did go to Pisa when we lived in Italy but don’t know the area where it happened. Keep smiling!

Thanks Keith, could have been worse and not letting it ruin the holiday. It was a very open area with marked parking bays that you would normally have to pay for with passers by on foot and by road. X

Thank you. Just a bit annoying I really liked my bike lights and it was Tony’s rucksack so I still have my biking one! Half expected it to happen in Italy but not allowing it to make us feel negative about Italy. Just need to find a Decathlon to restock!

Sorry to hear that Rose. I know how violated you feel after having your things taken, even if it wasn’t anything expensive. I’m glad they don’t appear to have done any damage and you’re both OK xx

Thanks Cathanne, it’s made us be more alert and Tony has devised some extra barriers inside the van to stop the doors being opened from outside! X

Hi Barbara and Tony, it could have been worse, it could have been the laptop and then I would be a bit annoyed that I couldn’t do my blog! All is well still enjoying Italy. X

Rosie and Tony so sorry to hear that you have had your van broken into, though thankfully you were not in it at the time and the robbers got away with relatively little. We spoke to a gentleman in Piza who had been broken into whilst he and his wife were in the supermarket! Hope the sunshine is still with you. Love to you both xx

Hi Penny & Marc, thanks for your message, just annoying more than anything and totally mystifying as to how they got in absolutely no sign of any damage to any of the doors but they must have got in the back doors somehow and just reached across and grabbed the bags. The weather has been amazing, a bit too hot as you know but I think we are in for a few days of unsettled weather after today. Tomorrow we will be making our way to Lake Trasimeno. Have been enjoying reading your blog. Love Rosie & Tony xx
