Germany – The Romantic Road – Landsberg Am Lech

We chose to visit this lovely town as it is situated by a river and liked the description from the guide book we had been using.

It really is a lovely small walled town with a beautiful central square the Haupt-Platz, housing some great buildings, the historical town hall with its stucco façade and the Tower of Schmutz or Nice Tower, east town gateway of the oldest town wall.

In Georg-Hellmair Platz sits the Parish Church, beautifully ornate inside as is St John’s Church located on Vorderer Anger.

We picked up a town plan with walking trails and just followed a couple of them.  One took us around the old town and another took us over the bridge and along the river.  It’s worth crossing the bridge to the other side for great photo opportunities of the weir and the town behind it.

Useful Info

We parked and stayed overnight in the Stellplatz that only cost us €2.30 instead of what we thought would be €10 plus we used €2.50 worth of electric.  The Stellplatz is within easy walk of the river and the old town and is fully serviced.
